A family’s relaxing day at the lake turns into a rescue mission after they found a dog swimming at a local lake in Deltona, Florida on February 25, Sunday.
Leslie Acosta tells Fox 35 Orlando that she and her family saw the dog swimming by itself. “When we look over here, we could see he was swimming over in this direction,”
According to Fox 35 Orlando, it was Irving Colon who saved Dax, the five-year-old German Shepherd and Labrador mix, out of the water.
Colon drove a boat and brought the tired pooch into safety. He said, “I looked and saw him just swimming across, and he looked pretty tired.”
Colon added that he has a dog of his own, and wouldn’t want what happened to Dax to his own pooch.
“I have a dog, so I definitely wouldn’t want that to happen to my dog. And if anybody would see my dog or any dog, I am hoping they would do the same thing,” he said.
Thankfully, Dax is now safe and has been reunited with his family. While his owners didn’t want to talk on camera, they passed a message to Fox 35 Orlando:
“Dax’s adventurous spirit got the better of him on the 25th when our fence gate broke. Luckily for our family there were people kind enough to go above and beyond in assisting his return home. We’re incredibly grateful for the individuals who pulled him out of the lake! Not to mention the extra time they put in afterwards to care for him. I’d also like to thank the local Facebook community for assisting in the search as well as the local shelters for providing additional information. Having Dax back means more than they could know. We’re blessed to be surrounded by such a phenomenal community.”
Dax’s family also reveals that before being rescued, he was alone for about 12 hours a mile and a half away from home. So, you could only imagine how sore his legs must’ve been!
But other than the sore legs, Dax returned home uninjured.
Acosta described the whole encounter as “exhilarating and exciting” after her and her family’s supposedly uneventful day turned upside down.
“I mean, yeah, we got some action on a Sunday. We got to do a little Baywatch rescue mission,” Acosta said.
