Ceramic Cremation Urn for Ashes, Copper Raku Kintsugi Funeral Vessel, SacredUrnsEtc by Susan Fontaine Pottery
$525.00
This special piece was created as a prayer pot, funeral urn or simply as a decorative art piece for your home. I created it to hold a small tea light candle to be used during a special ceremony or for reflective moments. It can be lit for the Memorial or Celebration of Life service or on special occasions such as an anniversary or birthday to honor and celebrate the memory of a loved one. It can also hold written intentions and messages to a loved one or house sacred or special objects. I threw this urn on the wheel and bisque fired it in an electric kiln. I then finished it with a Copper raku glaze before firing it in a gas kiln. At around 1800 degrees it was quickly pulled and “reduced” in a trash can to produce the elemental effects. This process creates significant thermal shock that often leaves separation cracks or lines in the piece. Sometimes the separation heals itself (walls reseal) and other times it is reinforced from the inside with a ceramic epoxy and then filled with a metallic epoxy in the Kintsugi method. Raku pottery is magical! The gorgeous colors of raku pottery do not show well in the photographs. The colors can shift abit after cooling from the fire and should not be stored in direct sunlight. 2 tea light candles are included with the urn. The lid can be temporarily sealed with museum wax or permanently sealed with an epoxy glue.
