Lustre firings add beauty and value to an urn. After the piece was completed I painted bamboo with gold and fired for the third time…and then painted Mother of Pearl on it and retired for a forth time to create a lovely rainbow look! This special piece was created as a prayer pot, funeral urn or simply as a decorative art piece for your home. I created it to hold a small tea light candle to be used during a special ceremony or for reflective moments. It can be lit for the Memorial or Celebration of Life service or on special occasions such as an anniversary or birthday to honor and celebrate the memory of a loved one. It can also hold written intentions and messages to a loved one or house sacred or special objects. I threw this piece on the wheel with Grolleg porcelain, trimmed it and painted a purple colored slip on it. I then carved a bamboo branch through the slip and finished it with a clear high fired glaze. Finally I put it through an additional firing with a Mother of Pearl lustre to give it a lovely rainbow effect. 2 Tealight candles included. The lid may be temporarily sealed with museum wax or permanently sealed with an epoxy glue.
